Step 1: Log in at https://app.socialtrait.ai/ and click + New Research on the dashboard.
Step 2: Select Creative Ranking.
Step 3: Select your asset modality — Text, Image, or Video.
Note: Creative Ranking studies cannot mix asset types. All assets in a single study must be the same type.
Step 4: Write your Research Objective. Keep it short and focused. Read the objective-writing guide.
Prefer not to write it manually? Click Upload a Context Brief (PDF or DOCX) above the objective field to auto-generate it from your document. If you already have text in the objective field, you'll be asked whether to Merge Both, Replace, or Keep Current. See Auto-generating Your Objective from a Context Brief for the full walkthrough
Step 5: Attach your creative assets. You must attach a minimum of 2 assets to start the study and assets must match the modality you chose in Step 3. Supported asset types and formats.
Step 6: Select your Use Case — this defines the criteria your assets are ranked against and the weightage of each. Click Select Use Case to open the modal. You have three ways to choose one:
Find the right one — system-generated: produces a use case from your objective (or brief) plus two of your assets. You can then edit it, apply it, request a team review, or save it to your library.
Browse saved — pick from your existing and default use cases (All / Available / In review). Open a card via ▸ to view its criteria and weightage.
+ Custom Use Case — choose Build it myself to define one from scratch, or Describe it to our team to have the Socialtrait team build it for you.
For the full walkthrough of generating, editing, reviewing, and saving use cases, see Leveraging Default Use Cases for Research.
Step 7: Select your Target Audience. Click Select Your Target Audience to open the audience modal. Select a community from your organization's account and click Add. If you need a new community, click + Custom Audience. Read about audience options.
Step 8: Add tags (optional). Press Enter or comma to add a tag. Up to 10 tags can be added. Using Tags.
Step 9: Click Kick Off Research to launch the study. The study name will be automatically generated by AI once the research is in progress.
Saving as a draft instead? Click Save as Draft. You will be prompted to enter a name for the study before it can be saved.
You'll receive an email notification when the ranking report is ready.
